How to take a better costume selfie

Take a better costume selfie

We are used to taking selfies in regular clothes, but what about when dressed up for a costume or Halloween or masquerade party. Here are a few quick tips on how to take the best possible selfies when dressed up or in costume.

1 Choose a location that will provide a good backdrop for your costume. Whenever you see something that would be a good prop to enhance your costume, use it. The atmosphere adds a lot to your picture

2. Utilize natural lighting when possible to capture the best details. This remember the golden hour rule, the hour after the sun rises and the hour before the sun sets is the best lighting for taking photos. There is no substitute for natural lighting.

3. Try different angles and poses to get a variety of shots. You probably have your favorite two or three go to angles and poses. While you are dressed up take pictures form a new angle and you’ll be happily surprised with the results. 4. Ask someone to take the photo for you instead of using a timer. It’s not often you are in dress up mode. It’s worth asking someone to take the picture to get a wider proper shot instead of the usual selfie

5. If possible, use a tripod or some other form of stability to keep the camera steady. Take the extra time to steady the camera and it will pay off

6. Use the zoom feature to get close-up shots of details in the costume. This is your chance for a cool close up. These pictures will get more attention because everyone usually takes photos from the same distance, use this chance to zoom in

7. Experiment with different apertures or depth of field to create a more dynamic look. Basically use your settings to highlight yourself and not the background if it is redundant.

8. Use a flash or additional lighting to ensure that the costume is well lit. If you have taken a lot of time to add detail to a costume, show it off with the right lighting.

9. Consider editing the photos afterwards to enhance the colors or contrast. Editing can will add that dazzle dazzle you are looking for.

10 And most important, fun and be creative with your shots! When you are having fun the camera captures that forever. From here at Funmular, we’ll see you, at the party !
